Artist Statement
I am a Galway born artist currently living and working out of galway city. I recieved a national Diploma in Art and Design from the Galway/Mayo institute of Technology in 1999, specialising in paint and print, and a B.A in Fine Art in 2001. Nature in its infinite variety is my main subject matter. My semi - abstract paintings have been strongy influenced by time spent in places as diverse as New zealand, Africa, Fiji, Australia and of course by our own Irish landscape. As well as working from the landscape i also paint a large number of nudes.
Teachings:
I currently run evening courses in Art Essence Gallery, Liosban Ind Est, Galway. The classes are oil painting for beginners and intermediate and run for 8 weeks a term. See overleaf for images of students work. I also hope to soon start teaching craft classes there as it is something I really enjoy and know a lot about as I am currently in the process of setting up a handcrafted greeting card company.
Current / Future Projects:
I am a member of Artknot, the Galway artist collective. We are a group of 10 practising artists who meet regularly to develop and collaborate on creative projects. For the past year we have been working on various different projects, many of which encourage public participation and are currently in talks with Cope to teach workshops to the women they help. Cope provide refuge for homeless women and those who are victims of domestic abuse and one of our aims for the future is to help these women create their own works of art and get them shown in a public exhibition.
