artKnot was formed in October of 2002, in direct response to the needs of practising artists to be part of a creative and nurturing group. artKnot was initiated by four core members, all of whom graduated from Cluain Mhuire College for Art and Design, Galway in 2000. These artists meet regularly to develop policies and have established the following objectives:
- To act as a support system for all members of the group
- To share information and create a network of knowledge and experience
- To mount exhibitions and collaborate on creative projects
- To promote the profile of artKnot and its members

The group has evolved and expanded over the years; it now has eleven dynamic members working in various media. It continues to meet frequently to share information and work towards attaining its aims.
To date artknot has staged numerous successful exhibitions and projects in Galway and throughout Ireland, the US and France.
Some of our most recent projects have included:
- A temporary installation using numerous materials (sand, stone, water, etc) found on location on Lettergesh beach, Connemara, Co Galway in November of 2005. We also documented teh gradual deconstruction of the piece by the natural elements, ie. the incoming tide.- April of 2006 saw the creation of permanent sound sculptures within Brigit's Gardens, Roscahill, Co Galway. The group used recycled metal to create large wind chimes and musical instruments. The official opening involved a performance by the members of the group on the contrived instruments.
- In July 2006, the group took part in Project '06 in conjunction with the Arts Festival which took over the City of the Tribes. The group constructed an installation which consisted of four Zoetropes. The public viewer was able to interact with the pieces and given direct access to the art process and thus create their own original experience.
